It’s not about turning your Hobby into a side hustle, it’s about farming joy through creating.
Hi, I’m Monique, the one woman show behind Home Sewn. And here is the story of how it came to be.
When Joanns closed in 2025, our area was left with even fewer options for buying fabric. I began looking at commercial spaces and seriously considering a dream I'd carried for years: opening a fabric and yarn shop. At that precise moment it didn’t quite make sense to pursue it, so I shelved the idea—again.
In early 2026, I realized my current job was no longer a good fit, and I wasn't willing to spend two or more hours each day commuting. So I decided it was time to stop waiting for the right job and to create it for myself instead.
Working at the shop comes with a three mile commute and allows me to contribute concretely and meaningfully to Vallejo, my home since 2008.
Opening Home Sewn has been quite the adventure and I’m so happy to be here.
I love to make things of all sorts and I generally incorporate up cycling or repurposing in my work. You can check some of it out here.
